Aythorpe Roding CC -Vs- Pegasus & Corringham CC

Aythorpe Roding CC* 230 - 8 (45 Overs)

Pegasus & Corringham CC 233 - 4 (39 Overs)

* Side batting first

Saturday saw Pegasus and Corringham visiting their old rivals Aythorpe

Roding. A match that Pegs desperately needed to win, it was important that

they got off to a good start.

Winning the toss and inserting Aythorpe on a green wicket, Ian Turnball gave Pegs that good start dismissing both openers cheaply. Turnball finishing with excellent figures of 4-38 from his 12 overs. Gareth Jenkins then bowled a very tight spell also picking up two wickets (2-7) to leave the home side five wickets down with just 50 runs on the board.

Building some sort of partnership was going to be crucial to the home side

if they were to set a winning total on what was turning out to be a good

batting wicket. The latter order batting of Millbank (73) and Liam Rosewell

(37) gave them the impetus they needed before Patmore (2-52) picked up two

of the key wickets. Aythorpe finally ending with a competitive 230 from

their 45 overs.

Pegs reply got off to a good start before two wickets fell in quick

succession. Just as it seemed that there may be yet another batting collapse by the Pegs determined batting by Matthews and Hymas steadied the innings while ensuring that Pegs were still within reach of the run rate.

There followed good middle order partnerships, something that has been

missing from their batting all season. Glen Matthews, was finally out for a

fluent 51 before key partnerships between Hymas and Sayers and then Hymas

and Pike took the game to within their reach. In the end Pike finished on an unbeaten 26 and Hymas went on to complete what turned out to be a match

winning century, finishing on 108 Not Out reaching the total for just 4

wickets down in just the 39th over.
