Aythorpe Roding 1st XI 204 - 9

Pegasus & Corringham 1st XI 164 - 10

For the second week running the Pegasus & Corringham batsmen failed to deliver after their bowlers had pulled the game around and put them in a good position at tea.

Aythorpe Roding won the toss and elected to bat, then proceeded to race to 75 without loss after only 13 overs. Making his first team debut, Gavin Sharp was introduced into the attack and made an immediate impact. Aythorpe Roding lost five wickets for the addition of only 11 runs whilst Gavin Sharp went on to finish with the impressive figures of 4 for 28 from 11 overs. Gareth Jenkins backed him up at the other end to claim 2 for 37 from his full allocation of 12 overs. However, Aythorpe’s number five, Mark Rosewell (49) managed to cajoled some annoying partnerships with the latter batsmen to post a final total that was perhaps 30 more than P & C thought they should have got. Nonetheless it was a total Pegasus & Corringham were confident of chasing.

At 56 for 1 after only 7 overs and then 109 for 3 it seemed it was confidence well placed. But as has happen so often this season, the middle and late order failed to build on these foundations and succumbed tamely to the Aythorpe second and third change bowlers. Five batsmen reached double figures but no one went on to play that match winning innings which would have held the lower order together, Daryl Hymas with 35 being the best.

It is becoming clear now that Pegasus & Corringham are beginning to suffer from the loss of long time injuries to club captain Ben Francis and John Bennett.
