T.RIPPON MID – ESSEX LEAGUE. PREMIER DIVISION
Great Burstead 1st XI 201 - 9
Pegasus & Corringham 1st XI 202 - 7
Pegasus & Corringham ground out a hard fought victory against basement team Great Burstead on Saturday. For the umpteenth time this season the bowlers did their job, restricting Burstead to 201-9 from their allotted 45 overs on a good batting track considering the midweek rain. The share of the spoils was distributed between all the bowlers, Alan Patmore, Daryl Hymas, Matt Cairns with 2 each and Dave Laurie claiming three.
The star of the show however was Jason Pike. Pegasus & Corringham were in a somewhat uncomfortable position of 113-6 with obviously plenty still to do. In a seventh wicket partnership of 54 with Mark Jenkins (13) these two progressed the total to 167 before Jenkins was run out going for the third run by a super throw from the boundary. Neil King then joined Pikey, and in an unbroken eight wicket partnership of 45 these two took P & C to a tense and nail biting win in the penultimate over. Jason Pike finished on 81 not out and whilst Neil Kings contribution was only 4 not out, it was just as important.
