T.RIPPON MID – ESSEX LEAGUE. PREMIER DIVISION

Bentley 1st XI 197 - 9

Pegasus & Corringham 1st XI 121 - 10

Pegasus & Corringham turned in a poor batting performance on Saturday after their bowlers had put them in a promising position earlier in the day. Alan Patmore, with 2 for 23, Gareth Jenkins, 2 for 34 and Neil King with 3 for 44 had taken wickets at regular intervals as well as keeping the run rate below 4 an over. It was a cavalier innings of 73 from Bentley’s Neil Hickson late on, that changed the whole outlook of the game.

After tea, Pegasus & Corringham suffered a couple of early setbacks but Gareth Jenkins and Daryl Hymas were just beginning to get them back in the game when an unfortunate incident occurred that lead to the dismissal of Hymas and seemed to affect the state of minds of the following batsmen. A run out incident appeal by Bentley, although within the rules of the game but perhaps not within the spirit of the game put the umpires in the awkward position of having to make the decision as per the rules. Thereafter Pegasus & Corringham seemed to just go through the motions with only Martin Sayers (34) and Neil Jardine (27) exercising the scorers pencil.
