T.RIPPON MID – ESSEX LEAGUE. PREMIER DIVISION
Pegasus & Corringham 1st XI 272 - 7
Galleywood 1st XI 199 - 9
Pegasus and Corringham finally turned in a fine all round performance that has so far this season been eluding them. Batting first for only the second time this year P & C racked up an impressive total of 272 for 7 from their 45 overs. However it was not all plain sailing as they lost two early wickets before the total was 25, but this failed to deter Keith Hawkes (52) and Daryl Hymas (113) who proceeded to romp along at 6 an over during a third wicket partnership of 149. Hymas was particularly dismissive of the Galleywood attack as his innings included eight sixes. There was a slight pause in the momentum when these two fell in quick succession but a late flurry from Martin Saggers (23) and Neil Jardine (29) ensured a daunting final score was posted.
The opening bowling attack of Alan Patmore and Matt Cairns continued the good work with two wickets apiece and restricted Galleywood in getting the quick start they needed if they were ever going to threaten P & C’s total. The change bowlers of Gareth Jenkins and Dave Laurie with three and two wickets respectively also gave no let up, but they just failed to prise out the last pair and claim the final bowling bonus point.
Nonetheless it was a welcome return to form for the Pegasus and Corringham batsmen and gives everyone’s confidence a boost in front of their crucial match with Great Burstead next week.
