Pegasus & Corringham 2nd XI - 196-6
Woodham Mortimar - 141 all out
Life has been hard for P&C in division three this year, and starting the day third from bottom, a win was much needed against a struggling Woodham Mortimar.
After being elected to bat, the P&C top order set about trying to make a respectable total on an uneven wicket. Dave Laurie jnr (36) and Andy Martin (31) made a slow but steady start paving way for in-form skipper Steve Aylieff to make an aggressive 73, leaving P&C with a total above which they anticipated. Phillips was the pick of the Woodham bowlers taking 3-42.
In reply, Woodham suffered an immediate set back as Mark Daines (3-30) took a wicket in the first over of the innings. Johnson (40) and Pinion (30) kept the scoreboard ticking along and looked as if they could steer Woodham to victory, until the introduction of Malcolm Hubbard (3-24) put pay to both batsmen in consecutive balls. Wickets fell at regular intervals after this as all rounder Andy Martin cleaned up the tail with figures of 3-16.
P&C will be hoping that a good team performance like this will kick start their season, so as to place themselves in the higher half of the table come the end of August.
