Pegasus & Corringham Vs Ecko & Monarchs                                       06/05/06

Ecko & Monarchs 179 all out

Pegasus & Corringham 180 for 3 (win by 7 wickets)

After being invited to bat the Ecko and Monarchs’ openers, Corps (13) and Desal(27) provided a steady start but were under pressure on a demanding pitch with good bowling from Turnbull (0-45) and Patmore (1-34).  At 80 for 2 off 23 overs the game was finely poised but several sharp catches reduced the visitors to 140 for 6, with only Kavanguka(39) scoring significantly.  Tails are designed to wag and the E&M captain, Vann(49) struck 20 off one Turnbull over and started a potentially damaging revival, but the P&C bowlers dug deep, especially Malan Bruwer on debut (4-35) and Maxted (4-20) and last years champions were finished off in the last over for 179.

P&C’s response revolved around one player, Daryl Hymas (114 not out) who destroyed E&M’s bowlers’ confidence, with the exception of, Walsh(2-32), making the pitch look like an August ‘belter’.  Hymas’ heroics were balanced by a somewhat patient 25 not out from the new captain Gareth Jenkins.  P&C completed the win in 33 overs, with the umpires allowing the game to finish in wet conditions and E&M sportingly played on to allow the game finish.
