HERBS ARE DESTROYED AS P&C MAKE HAY

Willow Herbs 87all out  (32.5 overs) 0 points P&C II's 90-1 (21 overs) 25 points

A depleted nine-man Willow Herbs team arrived at Herd Lane on Cup Final day probably expecting a beating and P&C did not disappoint. Whilst most Herbs' thoughts were on Wales, P&C's own big fish, Jason Pike (36 not out), battered Herbs bowling to bring the game to a premature conclusion. This was in addition to a couple of fine catches he made earlier in the day.

After choosing to bat, Willow Herbs made a rocky start with P&C's opening bowlers Hubbard (1-17 from 7 overs) and Daines (1-20 from 10 overs) exercising tight control and landing an early wicket each. The most accomplished Herbs batting came from Cornwell (44) and he kept the innings afloat before a suicidal run-out cost him his wicket - skipper Aylieff and able assistant Jenkins bringing about Cornwell's demise. Herbs innings then capsized as Laurie (4-21 from 8.5 overs) tore loose with a tempestuous display. Parsons (1-26 from 7 overs) provided good support.

Willow Herbs only chance of defending 87 runs was get into the wickets early. Unfortunately for them, Hubbard (19) and Jenkins (14 not out) proved too experienced with a sturdy first wicket partnership of 45. At Hubbards departure, Pike put on a brutal display of hitting and strike manipulation and he overhauled the total well before the Cup Final had reached extra time. An irony probably not lost on the hapless Herbs, and hopefully a sign of things to come from P&C who next travel to newly-promoted Rayleigh
